When oil burns in the engine cylinders, ash deposits are formed (non-combustible metals from the oil additive package) and compounds of sulfur and phosphorus, which, entering the vehicle's exhaust system, form deposits on the surfaces of catalysts and particulate filters. In the initial stages, this leads to disruptions in the operation of the engine air-fuel ratio control system and increased fuel consumption, and as deposits accumulate in the exhaust system, resistance to exhaust gases increases, which leads to a decrease in engine power, increased fuel consumption and emissions of harmful substances. Therefore, equipment manufacturers recommend using low-ash oils (LOW SAPS) - products with a reduced content of sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur. In the Rosneft portfolio, such products are Rosneft Revolux D5 and Rosneft Revolux D6, the use of which will extend the life of exhaust aftertreatment systems compared to standard ash level oils.

During engine operation, products of incomplete fuel combustion accumulate in it, in other words, soot. The lower the fuel quality and the higher its consumption, the worse the engine operating conditions, and, accordingly, the higher the amount of soot particles. Also, any motor oil oxidizes under the influence of high temperatures in the engine. Oxidation products are dark, resinous substances. A high-quality oil, thanks to the presence of effective detergent-dispersant additives in it, holds the decomposition/oxidation products and soot in suspension, keeping the internal surfaces of the engine clean. This explains the dark color of the oil. Thus, the oil in the engine should darken, which is evidence of its effective operation.
