How to choose oil for a car?

To select Rosneft oil, you can use the LUBEPRO NAVIGATOR technical service, which can be found in the "Products" section. Next, you need to select the type of equipment you are interested in, specify the make and model of the car, year of manufacture, and engine type. After selecting the above parameters, the system will provide recommendations for lubricants for each unit. If several products are recommended for your request, the system offers them in order of priority. If your car brand is not listed in LUBEPRO NAVIGATOR, you can send a product selection request to the email address LubsTechSupport@rosneft.ru.

What criteria are used to select motor oils for passenger cars?

The engine of any car needs motor oil, with the replacement interval being 5,000 - 15,000 km depending on the car and its operating conditions. In the Rosneft portfolio, motor oils for passenger cars are represented by the Magnum line, as well as Rosneft Maximum and Rosneft Standard oils, which can be used in a wide range of European, American, Asian, and Russian-made cars. When choosing a motor oil, you should first of all rely on the car's owner's manual. In this manual, the manufacturer specifies the optimal characteristics of the motor oil for stable operation of the car, namely:

1. The viscosity grade of the motor oil. The viscosity grade can always be found on the product canister, which is indicated in accordance with the SAE J300 classification as follows: SAE 5W-40, 5W-30, 10W-40 and so on. The first number before the letter W (0W-, 5W-…) characterizes the low-temperature viscosity grade; the lower the number, the better the low-temperature properties of the oil and the lower the temperature at which the engine can be started. The second number (-20, -30, …) is the high-temperature viscosity grade; it characterizes the viscosity at the engine operating temperature and the thickness of the oil film, that is, the higher the second number, the more viscous the oil is at the engine operating temperature.

2. The performance level according to international specifications. On the canister, in addition to the viscosity grade, the following markings are also indicated: SN, SL, SM, A3/B4, C3. The required performance level of oil for your car is also specified in the owner's manual.

3. Manufacturer approvals. Some manufacturers, in addition to international classifications, indicate their own approvals. For example, for Mercedes-Benz, the official approval looks like this: MB 229.5, MB 229.31. Many manufacturers have their own official approvals (Renault, BMW, Ford, VW).

You can find out the requirements for your specific car in the owner's manual, and you can choose the appropriate oil from the Rosneft range using the LUBEPRO NAVIGATOR technical service or on your own in the "Motor Oils for Passenger Cars" section.

Is it possible and necessary to use additional additives to improve oil quality?

No. Additional additives are capable of disrupting the balance of oil properties and affecting its characteristics. Neither oil nor equipment manufacturers recommend introducing additional additives into oils or, for example, making changes to engine designs. Additional additives and other improvements can cause more problems than they provide benefits. All modern oils contain a package of additives. During development, they are selected in composition and proportion to meet the requirements of both international standards and automaker specifications. Adding even the best component inevitably upsets the balance. As a result, some parameter may be improved, but others will almost certainly suffer. In total, the effect will be zero at best.
